Happy Halloween

Oct 31st, 2008 | By Jennifer | Category: Family

This morning Evan woke up and found the pumpkin Jon and I had carved the night before while he was asleep.  He couldn’t get enough of it.  Then he started saying candy.  Now it being 8 in the morning I wasn’t about to give my son candy but he would not leave me alone, so I gave him a candy corn.  He then took the candy corn climbed up on the table and feed it to the pumpkin.  I just had to laugh.

Halloween Cookie Party

Oct 31st, 2008 | By Jennifer | Category: Family

As my mom reminded me a few days ago, Halloween is my favorite holiday.  I don’t know if it’s because we always had great costumes growing up (thanks to mom) or if it was just an excuse to get candy.  Now with my own kids it’s fun doing things with them.  On Thursday we made some sugar cookies and had some of our friends over for Halloween Cookie decorating.  It was lost of fun!

Dean at 2 months

Oct 31st, 2008 | By Jennifer | Category: Family

I can’t believe Dean’s 2 months old. We went in for his 2 month check up today, along with a clean bill of health he got his first set of shots. He didn’t like those so much.

Here are a few shots I got of him making faces, in my favorite outfit. Yes it was Evan’s first and it was my favorite one 2 years ago too.

Undecided

Oct 21st, 2008 | By Jon | Category: Misc

David Sedaris is one of my favorite authors. He is one of the essayists regularly featured on This American Life, and tells some of the funniest stories I have ever heard. I was surprised to see this essay by him about the election.

I don’t know that it was always this way, but, for as long as I can remember, just as we move into the final weeks of the Presidential campaign the focus shifts to the undecided voters. “Who are they?” the news anchors ask. “And how might they determine the outcome of this election?”

I look at these people and can’t quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention?

To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of **** with bits of broken glass in it?”

To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.

I mean, really, what’s to be confused about?

For the rest of the essay check out the New Yorker article.

How does your food get in your belly?

Oct 21st, 2008 | By Jennifer | Category: Family

Today at lunch while Evan and I were eating our deviled egg sandwiches and pears I made the comment that all the food was in his belly to which he said “bread, belly” them proceeded to life up his shirt, un-tuck his undershirt and try to put bread in his belly via his belly button. That’s a new one. I just sat laughing.

The Cousins

Oct 21st, 2008 | By Jennifer | Category: Family

We all got together at Grandma and Grandpa Barclay’s on Sunday.  It was fun. Evan and Dean seemed to have fun with cousin Eeva (even though she’s only 3 months old).  Evan had fun swinging outside with Aunt Anne.  And yes the pie fest has started.  I’ve come to realize that I really like pie and I like making pie.  I found this recipe for coconut cream that I want to try next.  Yumm Yumm
