If you are in Utah and have paid any attention to the news you’ll have heard about one of our local embarrassments, a State Senator named Chirs Buttars, and the blatantly racist comments he made a few days ago saying about a bill “This baby is black. It is a dark and ugly thing.”

His response to those angered by his disgracefully comments was to say the he was being attacked by a “hate lynch mob.”

Now The World According to Me has created a petition online where people can go to voice their of non-support for Buttars. Check out the We Don’t support Chris Buttars petition.

Every once in a while something comes along and changes the way we live. Gmail revolutionized email by giving users practically unlimited storage when 10 megs was the industry standard. Tivo ond DVRs changed the way we consume TV. Now a new service from Google may be able to do the same thing for telephones.

I always know I am not going to like a news story when ever I hear Chris Buttars name mentioned. This Utah State Senator consistently introduces the most backwards legislation imaginable, every single year. This year he is gallantly working to ensure that Salt Lake cannot offer insurance benefits to unmarried Gay or Lesbian couples. Because obviously letting Gays have insurance benefits threatens my marriage.

Now, Buttars is is hot water for a blatantly racist comment he made during a debate in the Senate yesterday. “This baby is black It’s a dark ugly thing,”. While he apologized later, saying that he did not mean it as a racist comment, Buttars true meaning is evident when reviewing the video. more…

Jennifer and I had the chance to vote in the presidential primaries on Tuesday. After thinking a lot about the candidates, I decided to vote for Barack Obama. Obama and Clinton have very similar positions on many issues, and I agree with both on most of them, but, the thing that drew me to Obama is his ability to inspire others.

Obama’s capacity to move people from all backgrounds is what I think can enable him to achieve what others have failed to accomplish. I loved this great video by Will.I.am of the Black Eyed Peas. It reinforces how moving Obama can be and what he could do as the leader of our country.

Our neighborhood was turned upside-down yesterday when a man on our street barricaded himself in his home and was surrounded by police. While the police evacuated some of the bordering houses, we were far enough down the street that Jennifer and Evan simply stayed inside during the standoff. Now that the situation is over and has been resolved without anyone being harmed, I am grateful to our law enforcement for their quick action and for defusing the situation.

Jennifer and I feel very sad for this family and this tragedy. The Grahams have gone through many trials over the past months including having their son nearly die several times, losing a car to repossession, and having their truck stolen. Clearly all of this along with other factors led to irrational actions which escalated a bad situation into something much much worse. more…
