Obama won the presidency for many reasons, but one that does not often get enough credit was his campaign’s use of technology to leverage the enthusiasm of his supporters to volunteer, donate, and simply to talk about their ideas and hopes.

Running a campaign like this is the easy part. It is easy to show supporters how they can become involved and help the cause. Governing in an open collaborative way is something entirely different. There is hope though. Obama’s transition team has set up change.gov as a site where the public and become involved in the transition process. The real test will be whether Obama can maintain his campaigns ability to utilize technology to mobilize supporters and leverage technology to help him govern.

While there is little certainty whether Obama will be able to pull it off, there is HOPE.
